Animal Control

The Animal Control Department is responsible for the daily care of all animals and the cleaning of the shelter. Duties include collecting strays and animals at large, delivering and picking up of animal traps, picking up and disposing of dead animals in City right of ways, investigating animal cruelty, dog bites, and nuisances. Additional duties are euthanizing animals, sending possible rabies to the Texas Department of Health, writing citations for violation of City Ordinances, and the sale of City registration tags and collection of impound fees.

Animal Control Adoption Policy

Would you like to adopt a pet from the city animal shelter? Call 758-3111 to make an appointment with Animal Control Officer to view animals that are available for adoption. Adopt-a-thon at Tractor Supply in Aransas Pass every other Saturday.

Q: What does it cost to get my pet out of jail?
A: There is a $20.00 impound fee, $8.00 a day for room and board, a $10.00 rabies fee (if your pet does not have it already), and a $2.00 city tag fee if dog is altered ($5.00 for unaltered).

Q: How can I get an animal trap?
A: Call 758-3111 to be put on the list. The animal trap is issued on a first come first served bases. The traps are issued on Mondays and returned on the following Friday. The traps are limited, so there is a waiting list.

Q: How do I report animal at large?
A: Call 758-3111.

Q: Who do I call about a 10-45 (a dead animal)?
A: Call 758-3111 to have Animal Control pick up and dispose.

Q: If my pet dies at home what do I do with the body?
A: Call 758-3111 and Animal Control will come and pick it up.

Q: What is considered “running at large”?
A: An animal not in a fenced yard, not tied up, or not on a leash.

Q: Am I permitted to own livestock?
A: Yes. You must obtain a livestock permit from our office. Livestock permits are free of charge.
